Hello!
Nicholas D. Evans, Ph.D. first earned his B.S. at Aquinas College (Grand Rapids, Michigan) in 2016. He then moved to El Paso, Texas where he earned his M.A. in Experimental Psychology at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) in 2019 and his Ph.D. in Social and Cultural Psychology in 2022. Starting Fall 2022, Nicholas joined the Department of Psychology at the University of Manitoba as Assistant Professor. Nicholas is the Director of the Personality, Relationships, Emotion, Social Cognition, & Identity (PRESCI) Lab. Nicholas' research primarily lies at the intersection of personality, social psychology, and social cognition, and often focuses on interpersonal relationships. Using a variety of methods from these domains, his work explores the interplay between different emotional, cognitive, and behavioral processes and how people perceive and make sense of their social worlds. His major lines of research include the cognitive components and interpersonal benefits of nostalgia and metaphor use. For example, he is interested in investigating the role mental imagery plays in experiencing nostalgia and using metaphors in our everyday language. Further, he investigates how both nostalgia and metaphor use can serve interpersonal benefits, particularly within romantic relationships. Nicholas also has a growing interest in the psychological and interpersonal processes involved in intellectual humility and science denialism. |
